Forfeiture is the loss of property, including currency, as a result of its proven connection with the commission of a felony. Law enforcement may seize property upon its belief of such connection, and may further attempt to gain ownership of the property. The seizing agency must prove, in court, the legal basis for the taking and keeping of the property.
