Burglary and Theft
In Florida, theft covers burglary, larceny, embezzlement, stealing under false pretenses and receiving stolen property. Whether the theft is a felony or misdemeanor depends on the value of stolen property:
- $100,000 or more is grand theft and a first degree felony.
- $20,000-$100,000 is grand theft in the second degree and is a second degree felony.
- $300-$20,000 is grand theft in the third degree and is a third degree felony.
- Amounts under $300 are petit theft and are classified as a misdemeanor.
